Leading the list is Coyote Logistics, a third party logistics firm providing multimodal solutions to more than 5,000 customers through its network of 40,000+ transportation providers. Encouraged by a pack mentality, Gen Y employees at Coyote have the freedom to take control of their careers and all have the opportunity to make a real impact on the future of the company.
Jeff Silver, CEO of Coyote Logistics, attributes the success of the company to their Gen Y employees. "We have built our entire business on Gen Yers," said Silver. "This generation is incredibly hardworking – as long as they feel that they are working for a purpose and toward a goal. And that purpose goes beyond just the workplace. They want meaningful lives, not just work lives. We feel a huge amount of pressure to pay these kids back by bringing them opportunities to participate in company sponsored activities outside of the workplace, such as our charitable efforts with St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital or our partnership with the City Colleges of Chicago. It is an absolute privilege to work with these inspiring professionals every day!"
Gen Y, which Brill Street defines as anyone born between 1980 and 2000 (currently ages 13 – 33), is a purpose-driven, social and tech-savvy generation that is looking for employers who trust them and can offer flexibility. Brill Street has been ranking the Top 50 Employers for Gen Y Emerging Talent in Chicago since 2009.
Chicago employers qualified for the award by having a minimum of 10 employees, with at least 10 percent of their workforce comprised of Gen Y. Companies were first evaluated on company offerings and employee satisfaction in six categories: professional development opportunities, benefits, environment, company reputation and culture and perks. The final score also takes into consideration the enthusiasm of company leadership for Gen Y and the percentage of Gen Y employees.
"Gen Yers are challenging employers to adapt to their lifestyles and work habits, and these companies exemplify those characteristics, bridging generational gaps," said Kevin Carlson, CEO of Brill Street. "This year's list was our most competitive yet and is truly representative of the best Gen Y employers in Chicago."
