Brett Davis Selected to Lead Deloitte Health Informatics
BOSTON, June 24, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Deloitte has named Brett J. Davis general manager of Deloitte Health Informatics (DHI), a newly launched business providing advanced analytics services and products to health care providers, researchers and medical manufacturers.
Davis, who recently joined Deloitte Consulting LLP as a principal, will work to expand DHI's solutions and network of collaborators in helping health organizations unlock the power of data to reduce costs, improve outcomes and shrink the time involved in developing new therapies.
Davis takes the helm of an organization that, in February, announced an alliance with Intermountain Healthcare, which has an extensive repository of electronic health-records data coming from its 22 hospitals and 200 clinics. The information covers a 40-year span and, because of its longitudinal nature with more than two trillion data elements, is particularly effective for medical studies and identifying optimal treatments for various health conditions.
Under Davis' leadership, DHI will draw on Intermountain's Homer Warner Center of world-class researchers and medical informatics professionals and Deloitte's deep analytics capabilities in creating a network that works to improve the U.S. health system around costs, outcomes and drug development.
Davis comes to Deloitte from Oracle where he was senior director of business development for the health sciences global business unit, helping to launch their health care analytics and translational research solution areas. He has also held leadership roles with IBM's health care and life sciences business, most recently as a business unit executive for the public and health care sectors.
"Brett has the unique blend of leadership skills and technical know-how needed to advance Deloitte's roll-out of the DHI organization," said Andrew Vaz, Deloitte's chief innovation officer, Deloitte Consulting LLP. "Life sciences and health care are strategic markets for us, and Brett's leadership will impact our ability to guide our clients on their journey to unlocking the power of data to transform health care."
Davis said he was drawn to Deloitte because the organization "offers the world-class talent and capabilities needed to support DHI in developing new analytics and information services to glean insight through the secondary use of data." He added, "As DHI's general manager, my focus will be on attracting the world's best talent, collaborating closely with Intermountain's informatics and clinical staff, forming additional networks and launching groundbreaking solutions that bring new value to clients."
Davis has published numerous white papers and has spoken at some of the industry's influential conferences and groups, including the Drug Information Association (DIA), the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the Healthcare Informatics and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA), National Chamber of Commerce Health Summit, Personalized Medicine World Conference and Harvard Partners Personalized Medicine Conference. His commentary has appeared in such publications as InformationWeek, Computer World, Advanced Clinical Trials and Health Data Management. His board affiliations include the Personalized Medicine Coalition, the Dean's Advisory Board of the Jefferson School of Population Health and the External Advisory Board of the University of Pennsylvania's Center for Bioethics.
Davis holds a bachelor's of science degree from Pennsylvania State University where he graduated as Student Marshal in Science. He lives in suburban Philadelphia with his wife and three children.
