Breached companies rarely know what data hackers are targeting
Taia Global is developing a data classification engine called Chimera to automatically identify and tag a company's high value data, i.e., the "Crown Jewels".
MCLEAN, Va., Feb. 14, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- In the United States, the Department of Justice, the National Security Agency and the Security Exchange Commission have all encouraged corporations to identify their critical data and treat it in a more secure fashion. International Traffic in Arms Regulations, Export Administration Regulations and other U.S. government requirements all mandate a prescribed level of protection to specific types of data by US companies prior to sharing with a foreign customer or client. The issue is, some technologies are construed as being of high value to potential adversaries of the U.S. or corporate competitor. Many organizations don't know where this data exists within their corporate infrastructure and therefore are not affording the data the appropriate level of security. There has been no easy way for companies to perform this task - until now.
"Every time that I've been asked to consult with a company's executives post-breach," said Jeffrey Carr (founder and CEO of Taia Global and the author of "Inside Cyber Warfare"). "They've never been able to tell me where their critical data resides on their network. The simple truth is, if you don't know what's valuable, you can't appropriately assess your cyber risk or protect your data."
Taia Global, Inc. in partnership with Atigeo LLC (Bellevue, WA) are proud to announce a new product in development which will enable disparate corporate data sets to be reviewed, labeled and tagged automatically to ensure the corporate high value information is appropriate identified. Taia Global's product, will utilize Atigeo's xPatterns big data analytic platform as the underlying engine for this solution. The automated solution provides corporate data stewards a leg-up in the expenditure of security dollars, by identifying, on-the-fly and with precision those files/documents requiring a specified or mandated level of security.
"Atigeo is delighted to partner with Taia Global in the development of this new data security capability. The volume of data created by today's corporations literally grows at an exponential rate. The opportunity for inadvertent disclosure of sensitive intellectual property or controlled technology grows in parallel. This solution is a natural utilization of the xPatterns platform and the platform's ability to deal with very large and disparate data sets," said Christopher Burgess, president public sector and CSO of Atigeo.
"At this time," said Jeffrey Carr. "Taia Global is inviting corporations to participate in the launch of our pilot program." Contact information is available on the TaiaGlobal.com website.
