BP Logix Awarded Bid From County Of Fresno For Workflow Processing And BPM
IT Selected Process Director Based on Process Timeline, Workflows and Electronic Approvals
SAN DIEGO, April 21, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- BP Logix, a developer of BPM software that accelerates time-to-value, today announced that the County of Fresno selected Process Director to replace a legacy system that was no longer able to address the automation and business process reporting requirements needed by the County. The selection process involved an RFP to which nine vendors responded, followed by a four month in-depth vendor assessment and evaluation of six competitive workflow and business process management products. Process Director was chosen by the IT staff, working in conjunction with Communications, Facilities and Fleet departments, as the product that best addressed current and future needs.
The County of Fresno is located in the Central Valley of California. As of the 2010 U.S. Census, it is the tenth most populous county in California with a population of 930,450 and the sixth largest in size with an area of 6,017.4 square miles. The county seat is Fresno and Fresno is also the fifth largest city in California. The U.S. Census Bureau also ranked Fresno as the 56th most populous metropolitan area within the U.S. in its 2012 census.
Rick Colen is Deputy Director of Information Technology for Fresno County, responsible for managing a staff of 110 IT experts who support 7,000 users across 126 locations and 26 departments. Acknowledging that its legacy solution had become so cumbersome that it could no longer keep pace with the County's needs, Colen sought an alternative that would replace—and upgrade—the County's workflow processing system. He understood that the County of Fresno needed more visibility into the status of its business processes - and that the inability to dashboard and understand the status of outstanding requests was hampering its ability to conduct business.
"We developed the Electronic Request Automation Management System to automate the workflows and processes that run the County – from simple telephone service requests to ordering tablets and software," Colen stated. Needing a solution that would review and report on the activities within its processes, as well as being able to anticipate potential problems before they occurred, was key to IT. "The biggest challenge we faced was not having a mechanism for determining when a process should be completed – nor having a timeline within our structure to know, in advance, whether that process may fail altogether. Those are two of the reasons we selected Process Director," Colen remarked.
The County employs individuals who have been trained on .Net technology and are familiar with Microsoft Word. It also has business analysts serving as liaisons between departments to oversee business requests and processes, Based on a .Net platform and using Word-based plug-ins made Process Director a comfortable decision for Colen's team to recommend. With data being pulled from Active Directory and PeopleSoft, and with many processes looping back to one another, being able to handle electronic approvals of activities represents both time and cost savings for the County.
"The ability to see outstanding requests and projected timelines is very important. And the support we are receiving from BP Logix is comparable to what we receive from Dell and Microsoft. The staff sees a light at the end of the tunnel – and that's a good thing," Colen observed.
"We appreciate that counties like Fresno are turning to BP Logix to assist them in becoming more efficient and more effective," stated Jay O'Brien CEO of BP Logix. "We are pleased that IT has embraced our Process Timeline and is creating the kind of infrastructure that will enable them to achieve its goals," he concluded.
