BorgWarner Opens New Technical Center in Shanghai
BorgWarner's Largest Technical Center Expected to Employ 400 People by 2012
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., March 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- BorgWarner (NYSE: BWA) officially opened a new technical center in Zizhu Science Park on March 22, 2010 in Shanghai, China. By 2012, the facility will be the largest in BorgWarner's network of global technical centers and is expected to employ about 400 people. Employees at the center will collaborate on engine and drivetrain product research and development, application engineering, and country management functions to provide its customers with the latest in powertrain technology.

Several officials from the central and local government attended the opening ceremony to show their appreciation for BorgWarner's continuous investment in China and expectations of greater achievements in China's fast-growing automotive market.
The BorgWarner China Technical Center will provide additional local support for BorgWarner's powertrain technology, which delivers improved fuel economy, emissions and vehicle performance. Products include turbochargers, DualTronic® modules, exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valves, air pumps, timing chains, fans and fan drives, water pumps, ignition systems, transmission solenoids and controls, friction plates, and all-wheel drive and four-wheel drive systems.
In addition, the BorgWarner China Technical Center plans to support technology growth for future generations of engineers. In close collaboration with the University of Michigan and the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute Internship program, the BorgWarner China Technical Center will offer Chinese engineering students the opportunity to work on challenging real-world projects while developing a pipeline of potential talent to support BorgWarner's growing business.
BorgWarner entered the Chinese marketplace in 1993 with a joint venture to supply transmission products. Today, in addition to China Technical Center newly opened in Shanghai, BorgWarner has operation locations in Shanghai, Beijing, Ningbo and Dalian with four joint ventures and one wholly-owned foreign entity (WOFE).
