Multitalented Beyonce Still Comes in Strong, Earning the Title of "Woman of the Decade"
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- After more than 5 million votes were cast internationally, AskMen's 10th Annual "Top 99 Most Desirable Women" list today uncovered Gossip Girl actress Blake Lively as this year's No. 1. While seasoned list-veterans Gisele Bundchen and Angelina Jolie have made it onto all 10 editions, this year shows an emergence of fresh, new faces. Additionally, a very deserving Beyonce emerged as "Woman of the Decade" by ranking high on the list an impressive nine times, and even making it to No. 1 in 2007.
Since its inaugural year in 2001, the "Top 99 Most Desirable Women" has served as a snapshot of which female stars AskMen readers favor the most based upon the attributes that men want in a companion, such as intelligence, talent, character, and beauty. This year's list highlights a new generation of leading women, such as Mila Kunis, Olivia Wilde and Nicki Minaj, in addition to welcoming newcomers like royal icon Kate Middleton, Glee's Lea Michele and Mad Men's Jessica Pare.
Actresses best known for their roles on television dominated over their movie star counterparts, with two of the top three spots on the 2011 list claimed by Blake Lively (No. 1) and Modern Family's Sofia Vergara (No. 3). Mila Kunis, who started on the small screen with That 70's Show but did not garner critical acclaim until her performance in Black Swan, secured the No. 2 spot. Completing the list for the "Top 99 Most Desirable Women of 2011":
More than any other year, 2011's "Top 99 Most Desirable Women" signaled a changing of the guard in terms of which women the current generation of men find most appealing:
- Ranking at No. 85 last year, Blake Lively beat out previous favorites such as Kate Beckinsale and Eva Mendes, who both dropped out of the top 10 ranking for the first time in three years.
- Selita Ebanks, featured in Kanye West's praised Runaway video, scored a No. 4 spot, well above her fellow Victoria's Secret Angels Marisa Miller and Candice Swanepoel.
- Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, who has replaced Megan Fox in the upcoming Transformers 3, is among the notable newcomers to 2011's list, debuting at No. 15.
"The 2011 Top 99 marks a departure from previous lists – nearly half of the honorees this year are new, giving us a glimpse of those qualities that a new generation of men find desirable," says AskMen's editor-in-chief, James Bassil. "This feels especially appropriate given that this is the 10th-anniversary edition of the list – we're seeing the next wave of Beyonces and Angelina Jolies emerge."
