Black Group Defends Duck Dynasty Commander
Rev. Jesse Peterson Decries A&E's Attack on The First Amendment
LOS ANGELES, Dec. 19, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson, author, radio talk show host, and Founder and President of BOND (Brotherhood Organization of A New Destiny), issued the following statement defending "Duck Dynasty" star Phil Robertson. The patriarch of the "Duck Dynasty" hit show was suspended by A&E for expressing his personal views promoting traditional families and disagreeing with homosexuality in a GQ interview. GLADD and other homosexual activist groups condemned his remarks and pressured A&E to suspend him. The following is Rev. Peterson's statement regarding this controversy:
"The decision by A&E to cave in to pressure from radical homosexual activist groups and suspend Phil Robertson is outrageous! Robertson expressed his personal views about morality, faith, and traditional families. He didn't make the statements on the show. He did not condemn or attack gays, nor did he single them out. In fact, Robertson talked about how his Christian faith instructs him not to judge or disrespect others who don't agree with his beliefs.
"This is an attack on the First Amendment and freedom of speech and religion. GLADD and other homosexual groups demand tolerance and inclusion; yet, they are the most intolerant people around. These groups gave Alec Baldwin a pass for repeatedly using a gay slur, but they have no tolerance for people who express their religious beliefs. This is hypocrisy!
"A&E should reinstate Phil Robertson immediately or they will face a major backlash from the viewers. Duck Dynasty and Phil Robertson appeal to Americans of all races who love the outdoors and believe in traditional American values. The audience is not just white--there are plenty of blacks, Hispanics and others who relate to Phil and the family."
