Biotest Pharmaceuticals Honored with the 2013 Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce International Business Leadership Award for "Business Expansion"

BOCA RATON, Fla., Nov. 19, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Biotest Pharmaceuticals Corporation ("Biotest"), a wholly owned US subsidiary of Biotest AG, (Dreieich Germany), announced today that it has been awarded the 2013 International Business Leadership Award for "Business Expansion" from the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce. This award recognizes companies that uniquely focus on retaining and growing existing international business relationships and whose activities provide a significant impact on the Florida economy.

Biotest researches and manufactures biotherapeutic products with a specialization in immunology and hematology. The company applies high-quality standards throughout the process, beginning with the recruitment of donors for the plasma collected in dedicated plasmapheresis centers, through the manufacturing processes, to the final products delivered to patients. Biotest currently employs around 900 people in the U.S., approximately 500 of whom work in the state of Florida.

The plasma collected from Biotest's centers is used as the critical raw material for the FDA-licensed biological products manufactured in the Boca Raton facility:  BIVIGAM [Immune Globulin Intravenous (Human), 10% Liquid] and Nabi-HB^® [Hepatitis B Immune Globulin (Human)]. These products are utilized by healthcare facilities throughout the U.S.

Biotest has invested more than $60 million in the last five years to expand and modernize its U.S. manufacturing facility in Boca Raton, and expand its U.S. plasma collection network.
