Berlin Packaging Marks Fifth Anniversary As Certified Supplier In Federal C-TPAT Trade Security Program
Certification Ensures Fastest Possible Consideration for Company Imports By U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency
CHICAGO, Oct. 10, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Berlin Packaging, a leading full-service supplier of plastic, glass, and metal containers and closures, today announced its fifth anniversary as a certified partner in the C-TPAT (Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism) program developed by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) bureau of the Department of Homeland Security. Companies certified through the voluntary and rigorous C-TPAT program not only enjoy the highest security consideration for their goods being shipped into the United States, but they also partner with the federal government in developing best practices for supply chain security.
C-TPAT member companies like Berlin Packaging are considered low-risk by the CBP and therefore their goods are 4- to 6-times less likely to be examined upon entry to the United States. Other benefits, including front-of-line status when C-TPAT containers are included in security examinations or when flow-of-trade is resumed after a security event, are also granted.
To become a member of the C-TPAT program, Berlin Packaging signed a formal agreement to work with the CBP to protect the national supply chain, identify security gaps, and implement specific security measures. The validation process includes submitting a security profile outlining the specific security measures the company has in place as well as allowing CBP to visit selected domestic and foreign trade sites connected with Berlin Packaging to verify its supply chain security measures.
"The celebration of our fifth year as a C-TPAT certified company reflects our commitment to putting our customers first," stated Andrew T. Berlin, Chairman and CEO of Berlin Packaging. "C-TPAT validation is meticulous, and it's extremely rare for packaging companies to pursue the application process and ultimately achieve C-TPAT certification. However, we believe this effort is justified in order to ensure the best possible materials flow and delivery of the critical goods our customers need. It's another element that reinforces our foundation for on-time delivery and operational excellence."
