Bauer Says Real Foreign Influence Scandal May be at the Ballot Box
WASHINGTON, Nov. 1, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Former presidential candidate Gary Bauer on Monday said, "For all the talk about foreign corporate cash stealing our democracy, the greater threat to the integrity of our elections may come from votes cast by non-citizens."
In a column in today's Politico, Bauer noted growing concerns about possible voter fraud as this pivotal election reaches a conclusion.
"Desperate to avoid a serious debate on their failed agenda, Obama and his political team have been attacking fellow citizens who have spoken out against the disastrous policies of the past two years," said Bauer, chairman of the Campaign for Working Families. "While unemployment is surging toward double digits, Obama is attacking job creators, small business owners and groups like the Chamber of Commerce, claiming without any evidence that foreign money is corrupting the campaign process.
"The real foreign influence scandal concerns the number of non-U.S. citizens illegally registering and voting in American elections, and the apathy with which this crime is often met."
