Barnabas Health Corporate Care Receives Risk & Insurance Teddy Award
TOMS RIVER, N.J., Nov. 6, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Barnabas Health Corporate Care, a leader in occupational health and workers' compensation clinical care, was recently recognized by Risk & Insurance® with the Theodore Roosevelt Workers' Compensation and Disability Management Award, also known as the Teddy Award, at the annual National Workers' Compensation and Disability Conference. The most innovative, creative and respected magazine in the industry, Risk & Insurance covers the people, stories and risks that embody the essential functions of risk management and commercial insurance.
Barnabas Health Corporate Care received the award in recognition of its initiatives and efforts to enhance and expand the internal Barnabas Health workers' compensation program, reduce workplace injuries and decrease overall workers' compensation costs across the system.
"We are elated to have received the most prestigious award for workers' compensation in the United States," said Joe Hicks, President and CEO, Barnabas Health Behavioral Health Network and Corporate Care. "The mission of Barnabas Health is focused on creating centers of excellence across all disciplines within health care. We are proud to have established Barnabas Health Corporate Care as an industry leader in the area of occupational medicine and to be able to offer this quality of clinical care to our employees and to employees from businesses in our market area."
Named for President Theodore Roosevelt who introduced and promoted the first significant piece of workers' compensation legislation in the United States in 1908, the Teddy Award program identifies and honors companies and public entities that have exceptional workers' compensation and disability management programs. Applications are judged upon key criteria, including: performance, sustainability, teamwork and innovation.
"The traditional way of providing workers' compensation care in the hospital setting was not optimal. By re-evaluating our efforts, implementing a team-oriented approach and focusing on the system's strength of providing health care, we've been able to make significant improvements in what was already a quality program," said Caryl Russo, Senior Vice President, Barnabas Health Corporate Care. "As a result, we've experienced a reduction in total incurred costs per claim, a decline in the total number of Lost Time Claims, and a significant reduction in the number of lost days per claim while the number of employees across the system has increased. We're pleased to be recognized for our efforts and accomplishments in this area. More importantly, we're proud to take real steps to ensure that Barnabas Health employees stay safe on the job."
As a recipient of the Teddy Award, Barnabas Health Corporate Care is highlighted in the November issue of Risk & Insurance magazine and will participate at the annual National Workers' Compensation and Disability Conference taking place November 11 to 13 in Las Vegas.
