DETROIT, Feb. 1, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Center has named David Gorski, M.D., Ph.D., leader of the Breast Multidisciplinary Team (MDT), effective Tuesday, Feb. 1. The announcement was made by Gerold Bepler, M.D., Ph.D., president and CEO of Karmanos Cancer Institute.

As Breast MDT leader, Dr. Gorski is responsible for coordinating interdisciplinary collaboration among Karmanos' cancer experts to enhance the quality of patient care delivered by the medical team. He also is charged with promoting excellence in clinical cancer research and education, along with developing and implementing measures to improve the overall quality of patient care services provided by team members.

In addition to Breast MDT leader, Dr. Gorski also serves as the co-director of the Comprehensive Breast Center and is co-leader of the Breast Cancer Biology Program at Karmanos and Wayne State University School of Medicine. Additionally, he is the site project director of the Michigan Breast Oncology Quality Initiative, a partnership between Karmanos and the University of Michigan, and serves as a professor of surgery at Wayne State University School of Medicine.
Dr. Gorski received his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor and received his Ph.D. in cellular physiology at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. Prior to joining Karmanos and Wayne State University School of Medicine, Dr. Gorski was an associate professor of Surgery at The Cancer Institute of New Jersey and the UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, NJ, as well as a member of the Joint Graduate Program in Cell & Developmental Biology at Rutgers University in Piscataway, N.J.
