Baltimore Technology Park Launches Third Major BuildOut to Meet Demand
Five Million Dollar Buildout of Area's Premier Data Center to Add 7,000 Square Feet of Highly Specialized Mission-Critical IT Environment
BALTIMORE, March 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Baltimore Technology Park (BTP), a premier data center and the largest carrier-neutral facility in the state of Maryland, today announced a five million dollar buildout that will increase capacity by 7,000 square feet and support up to six megawatts of power. Slated for completion this April, BTP's buildout of additional space is the third in its short five year history.
BTP's latest buildout is necessary to meet continuing high demand in the Baltimore-Washington area for secure and reliable data center services, especially scalable power and cooling infrastructure. Companies with growing IT initiatives, compliance requirements and Disaster Recovery plans can implement them more efficiently by utilizing a data center such as BTP. The facility also addresses the challenges of companies in need of consolidating data centers as a result of mergers, acquisitions and down sizing.
Interest in BTP's services has been particularly strong from legal firms, local universities and health care providers seeking to support their mission-critical applications. In fact, BTP recently welcomed Baltimore's largest university and law firm to its list of clients last year, and it already has tenants scheduled to occupy some of the new space in April.
"In the current economy, businesses are pulling back from large capital expenditures on new equipment for augmenting their existing company owned data infrastructure," said Jim Weller, president of BTP and a 20-year veteran of the IT infrastructure industry. "There's enormous demand for outsourcing to an affordable, secure, local data center like BTP with the redundant power, cooling, and network needed to meet the demands of business continuity and disaster recovery objectives."
For the buildout, BTP has selected Plano-Coudon, a highly respected construction management and general contracting firm based in Baltimore. Electrical work will be handled by Brown and Heim, a Baltimore-based electrical contractor in business since 1933. The upgrade in commercial power will be provided by additional feeds from Baltimore Gas and Electric, backed redundant Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) and Caterpillar generators.
