Bahrain's Shura Council Embraces King Hamad's Response to BICI Report

MANAMA, Bahrain, Dec. 2, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Earlier this week, Bahrain's Shura Council voiced support for His Majesty King Hamad's speech on the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI) report and welcomed the government's steps toward implementing recommendations.

"The King's keenness to achieve justice and protect people's interests was the main reasons behind forming the BICI and giving it an international status," Council Secretary General Abdujalil Al Tareef said. "His keenness to carry out the BICI's recommendations shows that everyone will be given fair dues and those behind insulting and unacceptable behavior will be punished."

The council urged the endorsement of BICI's recommendations and also encouraged officials to prepare for enacting the necessary legislation. The report's suggestions include providing fair trials for all citizens and respectable compensations through the National Compensation Fund.

Al Tareef remains optimistic about the country's future progress and reconciliation.

"We are very happy with the level of professionalism and transparency the BICI has done its work in and we hope that this report will bridge gaps and ensure common grounds for the best ways to serve the country," he said.
