Bahraini Telethon Raises $2.7 million for Somalia
MANAMA, Bahrain, Aug. 13, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Yesterday, Bahrain's "BH4Somalia" campaign, a day-long telethon to benefit famine-stricken Somalia, raised more than 1 million Bahraini Dinars or $2.7 million in donations.
An initiative of the Information Affair Authority, "BH4Somalia" broadcast yesterday on Bahrain TV from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. to midnight, during which participants were able to call in or donate via SMS. Those wishing to donate in person visited the IAA headquarters in Isa town or donation centers in the City Center and Seef Malls.
More than 12,000 Bahrainis and expatriates participated.
The telethon follows an earlier $3 million donation in humanitarian aid by the Bahraini government.
