Axiom Annual Golf Tournament Raises $38,400 for Fisher House Foundation
FALLS CHURCH, Va., Oct. 28, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Halloween and frost-covered pumpkins may be on the horizon, but summer made a dazzling return for the annual Axiom Resource Management golf tournament on October 22nd to benefit Fisher House Foundation. The Foundation provides a broad range of services to support families of U.S. Armed Forces personnel wounded in combat. Axiom has dedicated the proceeds from its annual golf tournament to Fisher House Foundation since 2004.
This year's sun-dappled day at the Westfield Country Club bought together 75 players ranging in skill from duffers to a few ready for Pro-Am play. Several corporate sponsors, including the Washington Nationals major league baseball franchise, supported this year's event. With the help of players and sponsors, the Axiom tournament raised $38,400 this year, bringing the cumulative total Axiom has contributed to Fisher House to $350,900.
"Military and VA medical centers," said Axiom Managing Partner Kevin Riley, "offer our wounded warriors and veterans the best healthcare available anywhere." But, he noted, "Fisher Houses offers these men and women something they cannot find anywhere else but home, and that is the care and comfort of their family."
Fisher House Foundation operates more than 65 homes on the grounds of military and veterans' hospitals, providing housing at no charge to families visiting ill or injured military personnel. Addressing the luncheon, special guest Mr. Brian Gawne, Fisher House Foundation vice president of community affairs, described the varieties of service the foundation provides. These include financing airfare for families that must travel great distances to visit recovering patients. The foundation also extends scholarships to the children and spouses of critically wounded warriors. And to support families of service members undergoing treatment at facilities that do not have Fisher Houses available, the foundation has joined with leaders of the hospitality industry to provide family members short-term hotel accommodations.
To date, more than 250,000 families have benefited from Fisher House Foundation operations. More than 7,000 students have been awarded $11,000,000 in scholarships and each day, as many as 848 families can be close to a family member being treated for a wound, illness or injury.
