Aware Provides Web-Based Biometric Enrollment Solution to the U.S. Department of Defense
Solution based on Aware's WebEnroll™, BioComponents™, and BioSP™ enables browser-based biometric enrollment for screening of employment applicants
BEDFORD, Mass., Oct. 25, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Aware, Inc. (NASDAQ: AWRE), a leading global provider of biometric software and solutions, today announced that its WebEnroll™, BioComponents™, and BioSP™ products are part of a new system to be used by the United States Department of Defense (DoD) to screen applicants for employment. The solution enables fingerprints to be collected using a biometric enrollment application that runs in a browser, making it easier to distribute, maintain, and secure across the DoD's various departments and numerous facilities and bases.
The new system called "SWFT Plus Enrollment" (SWFT+) and administrated by the Defense Manpower Data Center (DMDC) brings significant enhancements to the existing Secure Web Fingerprint Transmission (SWFT) system. It standardizes the capture, storage, and forwarding of electronic fingerprints across the DoD in a way that enables use of existing fingerprint capture workstations. SWFT+ was successfully piloted and rolled out for the Army, and then mandated for department-wide deployment by senior DoD officials. Going forward, it will be used by the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps to screen applicants for military and civilian positions. The DoD employs about three million people around the world.
"Enabling biometric capture in a browser presents difficult technical challenges, but also significant advantages for our customers, particularly for large, broadly distributed deployments," commented Rob Mungovan, VP of Biometrics at Aware. "The DMDC system is the largest in the world of its kind, and we are pleased to be a leading provider of this important biometric technology, particularly as cloud-based biometrics gain favor. It's our latest success in delivering complex, mission-critical biometric solutions on a large scale."
WebEnroll utilizes Aware's BioComponents, which run within a browser to collect, analyze, and submit biographic data, live scan and card-based fingerprints, facial images, and iris images. BioComponents also serve to enable the use of different models of biometric capture peripherals in the same system. BioSP runs on a server, and fulfills several key functions, including management of the configuration and distribution of the WebEnroll application, standards-based validation, formatting, and routing of enrollment submissions, and processing of search results.
