Auditor General Jack Wagner's Annual Sharing & Caring Golf Tournament July 11 at Edgewood Country Club
PITTSBURGH, June 30, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Auditor General Jack Wagner's 25th annual Sharing & Caring golf tournament, which benefits disabled military veterans, will be held July 11 at Edgewood Country Club.
Sharing & Caring is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of hospitalized veterans. The organization is composed of an all-volunteer staff that represents 16 different veterans groups, including the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, Marine Corps League and Korean War Veterans.
Wagner's annual golf tournament has raised more than $500,000 over the past two decades for Sharing & Caring Inc. All of the event's proceeds are used to provide approximately 1,000 veterans with lunch and a cruise on the Gateway Clipper Fleet's Majestic. This year's cruise is set for Sept. 6-9. For many veterans, this will be their only time out of the hospital this year.
Wagner, a U.S. Marine veteran who received a Purple Heart for wounds sustained in the Vietnam War, said that the Sharing & Caring boat cruise is a unique way to benefit America's disabled veterans, many of whom are confined year-round to hospitals and nursing facilities. The boat cruise would not be possible without the golf tournament.
"With our nation fighting a war against terror, the Sharing & Caring golf tournament is a way for all of us to show our appreciation for the brave men and women who are safeguarding our nation's freedom,'' Wagner said.
Huntington Bank is the title sponsor for the golf tournament this year. Other corporate sponsors include The Pittsburgh Firefighters Local 1, Dollar Bank, UPMC, PNC Bank and First Niagara. Corporate sponsor packages are still available. Golf packages are also available at $1,000 per foursome or $250 for individuals.
