AT&T Names New Wireless Network Lead in Philadelphia
Industry Veteran to Lead Wireless Network Operations Team
PHILADELPHIA, July 27, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T* announced today it has tapped industry veteran Kurt Woehr to oversee wireless network operations in eastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and Delaware.
"Kurt is a dedicated team leader who has the experience needed to ensure our customers have a great network experience every time they use their device whether it's to talk, text or surf the web," said Tiffany Baehman, vice president and general manager, AT&T greater Philadelphia market. "With nearly 12 years of wireless experience, Kurt's knowledge and understanding of the network in the greater Philadelphia market is second to none."
Previously, Woehr managed the HQ RAN Performance team, which under his direction created new ways to make the network even better. Prior to that national role, Woehr was focused on improving the customer experience of the greater Philadelphia area as the RF performance manager. He holds a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from Penn State.
"I have a passion for my job – I love what I do," said Kurt Woehr, director, AT&T RAN Engineering greater Philadelphia market. "The technology is always changing and getting better at such a rapid pace. The network team in Philadelphia has a history of driving innovation and providing customers with technology that allows them to do more, in more places. We work hard to ensure that our customers have the best possible network experience."
AT&T invested nearly $700 million in its Philadelphia area wireless and wireline network from 2008 through 2010 as part of its commitment to superior service in the area. And in 2011 the nation's fastest mobile broadband network is getting faster with 4G. A key planned upgrade for 2011 is deployment of enhanced backhaul connections to cell sites in Philadelphia and the surrounding areas to enable 4G speeds. Backhaul connections carry traffic between cell sites and AT&T's nationwide network. Enhanced fiber-optic and Ethernet backhaul connections expand capacity many times over and enable additional expansion in the years to come.
