AT&T Connectivity is Mission Critical, Says Infiniti Red Bull Racing
This Sunday's Melbourne Grand Prix marks the first race in a new era for Formula One
LONDON, March 13, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- This weekend, Infiniti Red Bull Racing, the four-time winners of the FIA Formula 1 Drivers' and Constructors' World Championship™, will face some of the biggest regulation changes the sport has seen in 20 years. As an Infiniti Red Bull Racing Innovation Partner, AT&T* is helping the Team collaborate and stay connected as they race to develop a winning car that meets these new challenges.
Through the recently expanded agreement, AT&T has provided Infiniti Red Bull Racing with communications that are up to two and half times faster than the services used in 2013. While retaining the network at the core of the Team's IT infrastructure, the team will also look into using new advanced communications services in other areas of its business.
"Over the last three years, AT&T has shown that it brings significant value to our operation, so much so that we now consider the network infrastructure to be mission critical," said Christian Horner, Team Principal, Infiniti Red Bull Racing.
Changes in Formula One regulations have required teams to build new cars that complement the smaller, more efficient, 1.6 litre turbo-charged V6 hybrid engine – a first for the sport, impacting the entire design of the cars. "The 2014 Formula One season brings some of the most fundamental regulation changes in the history of the sport. Success in the first year of the new engine will depend on who can evolve the quickest. The network will play a crucial part in how we develop the car; gathering data, learning from it and adapting will ultimately determine our season. AT&T gives us a significant edge in this area. Expanding our use of the AT&T network to make Infiniti Red Bull Racing a more connected business will be key to the future success of our Team," adds Christian Horner.
"As Formula One moves into a more tech-focused and connected environment, the relationship with AT&T is steadily growing, with plans to expand it in order to support the Team's connected future. Within the next few months, all of our WAN links will be consolidated onto AT&T's backbone. We also plan to adopt unified communications tools, mobile device management and security services later in the year," said Matt Cadieux, Chief Information Officer at Infiniti Red Bull Racing.
AT&T's support over the last few years has touched many aspects of Infiniti Red Bull Racing's operations. It's a sport where speed matters most, and where hundredths of a second can mean the difference between winning and losing.
"The services that we provide Infiniti Red Bull Racing are a great testament to our network's strength, resilience and reliability. When any delay can affect the overall team result, it's very important they can trust and rely on our services to always deliver. The ongoing changes within Formula One show how important new platforms and tools are to supporting a connected, borderless team that can operate anywhere around the world," said Andrew Edison, regional vice president, EMEA, AT&T.
As an Innovation Partner to the Team, AT&T has helped Infiniti Red Bull Racing's employees and critical partners work together during the pre-testing phase in key locations - the Team's HQ in Milton Keynes, U.K.; their engine manufacturer, Renault, based in Viry, France; and the trackside team, who will also be working at any of the 19 race circuits around the world during the upcoming race weekends.
