ORLANDO, Fla., Dec. 19, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Orlando Medical Institute President Felix Marquez has announced a new academic program beginning this spring, which will expand the courses offered at OMI. In addition to EMT and Paramedic courses, Orlando Medical Institute has been approved by the Board of Nursing to provide an Associates Degree in Nursing.

Orlando Medical Institute's nursing program is fully accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools. Upon successful completion of the program, students receive an Associate in Science Degree in Nursing, which enables them to apply for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN). Upon successful completion of this examination, the Registered Nurse (RN) License is achieved.
"The demand in Central Florida for nursing licensure is extremely high with long admission waiting periods and we wanted to provide students an additional option in the Orlando market," said Director of Operations / Vice President Abigail Monroig-Marquez. "We have been providing EMT and Paramedic courses since 2004 and felt that Nursing is an excellent addition to our medical training curriculum."
Construction on the new 12,000 sq. ft expansion space is nearing completion with final work being done on the classrooms, simulation centers and streamlined technology hub for students' enhanced learning.
