Traffic Alert
During the UN General Assembly Week, traffic on the East Side often grinds to a halt. Expect delays. If possible, use public transportation. Subways (Grand Central) are more likely to be on schedule than any buses. First Avenue, in front of the United Nations, will be a frozen zone (cars will be able to use the First Avenue underpass, but expect congestion), the eastern lane of Second Avenue is reserved for VIP motorcades. Many other streets around Manhattan will be temporarily frozen as VIP's move about the city. If you must drive, there are two options:
1. Public officials may park on the west side of Second Avenue, as long as their driver stays in the car
2. All cars driving to the press conference site must pass the vehicle checkpoint on East 41st Street, between Second and Third Avenues. To reach the checkpoint, start south of East 41st Street and proceed north on Third Avenue and make a right turn onto East 41st Street (n.b. there will be no turns allowed from Second Avenue) and follow the road in Tudor City around the park to East 43rd Street.
