Arpin Has Solid Performance In Global Rallycross Debut At X Games Brazil
LOS ANGELES, April 23, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- He has raced almost everything with a motor and that experience helped Steve Arpin to a strong showing in his Global Rallycross and X Games debut at the season opening event in Foz do Iguacu, Brazil.
Arpin, driving the #32 Royal Purple/OSME – Ford machine, used all the experience he has gathered in go-Karts, snowmobiles, dirt track racing and stockcars, to power his way to a solid qualifying session on Saturday. With lessons learned about the track and relying on his vast experience, Arpin finished second in his heat on Sunday to advance to the final later in the day. In the main event, Arpin avoided the dust-up at the start of the race and powered his way to a fourth place finish, just missing a chance for a medal.
"I have pretty much raced anything I could get my hands on and when the opportunity to race in Global Rallycross came up, I felt it was a neat opportunity," said Arpin, who will be competing in the full Global Rallycross season. "It is a fast-growing series and when they say it is "action sports", it is exactly that. The level of competition is very high, so I am happy with the result in my first race. I want to thank the Royal Purple/OSME – Ford team for their support this weekend. It was a team effort."
"As a first time Global Rallycross competitor in the recently completed Brazil X Games, we were impressed by Steve's ability to finish a strong fourth," said Randy Fisher, Royal Purple Marketing Director. "Given his racing experience, we are pleased that he has quickly found success in a fast growing and exciting extreme sport that Royal Purple is proud to partner with."
Global Rallycross, which debuted at X Games 16 in Los Angeles in 2010 and expanded nationally in 2012, held its first international event yesterday. The series opener was won in spectacular fashion by another newcomer, Formula 1, NASCAR and IndyCar driver Scott Speed, who was racing as part of the Global Rallycross Star Car Program. The series will resume on May 17-19 at the X Games Barcelona in Barcelona, Spain.
Global Rallycross combines the best aspects of circuit racing, off-road racing and rally competition to deliver intense action in a fan-friendly environment. Global Rallycross pits production-based, small cars against each other for door-to-door racing featuring elements such as dirt, asphalt and jumps. Drivers progress through a series of heat races to advance into a final race, where winner takes all.
