Architects Stoutenborough, Inc. Announce City Council Approval of Mariner's Pointe Mixed-Use Project In Newport Beach, Calif.
Project brings much-needed identity to a long-neglected corner in Mariner's Mile
LAGUNA BEACH, Calif., Aug. 29, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Stoutenborough, Inc. Architects and Planners, one of the nation's leading mixed-use architectural design firms, today announced the approval by the Newport Beach City Council of the 20,000 sq. ft. Mariner's Pointe development on one of the most prominent corners of the city's Mariner's Mile. Mariner's Pointe will include retail and restaurant space serviced by a three-level parking facility, providing the look and feel of a Mediterranean village. The project will create a high-quality destination on what is now an area of disrepair and brings a welcome identity to a location that has been debated for more than 15 years.

According to council member Ed Selich, "I think this project is very well designed. It will be a great enhancement to Mariner's Mile and I support the project."
Council member Rush Hill added, "I think this building sets the theme for the quality we're looking for. The project is well conceived. This design and positioning is what we've been requesting for years and finally have."
Council member Keith Curry said, "I'm very sensitive to the neighbors and their concerns, and I think there has been substantial mitigation built into this plan."
Architect J Todd Stoutenborough, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, said of the project, "Creating a project that serves the community, the tenants, the owners and the environment on this site was a challenge that required a lot of careful planning and design. We're delighted that the City Council sees that this project is a wonderful addition to the community."
The property is owned by brother and sister, Glenn and Eva Verdult, who will locate their Winston's Jewelry store along with high-end retail and restaurants on the site. The Verdults say, "We are committed to keep this facility in the family for many generations."
The project is being developed by Ridgeway Development also from Newport Beach. Tod Ridgeway says this of the project, "This project has been in the works for a year and a half. It's a focal point in the center of town. It's about vision, about revitalization, about a renaissance for Mariner's Mile."
