The annual gathering drew more than 100 electric and gas utility professionals to hear the newest developments in online energy efficiency software and customer communications platforms. Conference presenters included industry leaders such as J.D. Power and Associates, eMeter, GoodCents, Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative, Georgia Power, PECO, Midwest Energy, Marietta Power & Water, and APOGEE co-founders and energy efficiency technology experts Joel and Susan Gilbert.
APOGEE established the APOGEE Customer Excellence Awards program in 2006 to provide recognition for Most Creative Marketing, Excellence in Customer Service, Outstanding Conservation and Stewardship, Best in Web Activity, Web Innovation, and Most Improved Website among its 500 utility clients.
Winners for Most Creative Marketing this year include Georgia Power for its "Sniff Out Savings" campaign; PECO for its Smart Ideas℠ program; and El Paso Electric for its integrated communications and cross linking strategy for its HomeEnergySuite™.
Indianapolis Power & Light Co. received APOGEE's Excellence in Customer Service Award for achieving 99 percent positive feedback from customers to date on its self-service, online home energy audit program called the "Home Energy Inspector."
APOGEE honored two utilities for Outstanding Conservation and Stewardship: Midwest Energy Inc. for its How$mart® Pay-As-You-Save®-type utility financing program for energy efficiency improvements, and Snohomish County PUD for its comprehensive Energy Advisor program and system-wide energy challenge.
Taking top honors for Best Web Activity are Emerald PUD and Entergy for achieving the highest usage of their Web energy efficiency applications in proportion to their customer base, and Tombigbee Electric Cooperative garnered the Most Improved Website award.
Wrapping up the ACE Awards ceremony were Old Dominion Electric Cooperative, E. On U.S. (parent company of Louisville Gas and Electric Co. and Kentucky Utilities Co.) and Duquesne Light, who received recognition for best overall energy efficiency innovation on the Web in 2010.
National speaker and humorist Ken Futch, author of "Take Your Best Shot," opened the ceremony with a short motivational message and then returned to stage to deliver an impromptu closing presentation due to overwhelming audience requests. The conference took place in Stone Mountain Park, GA, at the Evergreen Marriott Resort.
