API Responds to Bunk Study on Natural Gas
WASHINGTON, April 12, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Russell Jones, API's senior economic adviser, today called the Shale study released by Professors Robert Howarth, Renee Santoro and Anthony Ingraffea, bunk.
"This study lacks credibility and is full of contradictions," Jones said. "The main author is an evolutionary biologist and an anti-natural gas activist who is not credentialed to do this kind of chemical analysis. In supporting documents, the authors admit that the data used was of very low quality. This study is really an exercise in selective data and manipulated methodologies used to reach conclusions that deliberately contradict mainstream science."
API represents more than 470 oil and natural gas companies, leaders of a technology-driven industry that supplies most of America's energy, supports more than 9.2 million U.S. jobs and 7.5 percent of the U.S. economy, and, since 2000, has invested nearly $2 trillion in U.S. capital projects to advance all forms of energy, including alternatives.
