Andrew Palau in Jamaica for Eighth Annual Fun in the Son Festival
More than 45,000 attendees make for the largest crowd ever at the Spring Break festival
KINGSTON, Jamaica, March 29 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Partnering with Jamaica Broilers Group (one of the largest privately-run companies in Jamaica), Glory Music, and dozens of local churches, Andrew Palau and several top musical guests came together for Fun in the Son Festival on March 20. Palau proclaimed the Good News to an estimated 45,000 people at the Jamaica College grounds.
This was the eighth annual Fun in the Son Festival, and Andrew's fourth consecutive year ministering in Jamaica. An outreach for Kingston and all of Jamaica, Fun in the Son has become increasingly appealing as a wholesome Spring Break alternative for tourists from around the Caribbean, the United States, and even the United Kingdom. Each year has seen visible growth in attendance, with this year boasting the largest crowd yet.
Packing the Jamaica College grounds, festival attendees enjoyed a children's area as well as musical performances by Kirk Franklin, Papa San, Carlene Davis, DJ Nicholas, and many more. Andrew Palau's message, which came toward the end of the evening, focused on major life moments that shape us over the years. For Andrew and his family, that included the survival of a plane crash in Kingston just days before Christmas this past year. Using the crash as a small yet dramatic illustration for life's most miraculous rescue plan through Jesus Christ, Andrew led hundreds of individuals in public commitments to Jesus Christ. Each was connected with area believers through a coordinated counseling and follow-up effort.
In addition to the free music festival, the event's leadership team joined with local churches to meet the needs of the area's less fortunate. Teams of volunteers from Oregon, Minnesota, and Florida partnered with locals to serve in schools and orphanages. They provided clothing to orphans, support to the needy, and a message of hope to all. These teams served more than 12,000 individuals in the week leading up to the festival and led hundreds more in decisions to follow Christ.
Plans are already underway for next year's campaign, and the leadership team is seriously discussing ways to take this vision, increase the impact of this partnership, and expand it throughout the Caribbean.
Future 2010 Andrew Palau festivals include Yakima, Washington; Kampala, Uganda; and Vina del Mar, Chile.
