American Muslims Use PSA to Counter Rising Fears of Islam, Muslims
"My Faith My Voice" gives Muslims platform to speak to America directly
WASHINGTON, Aug. 30 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A grassroots coalition of American Muslims today released a public service announcement (PSA) and online campaign titled "My Faith My Voice" at a press conference in Washington, D.C., as a response to the rising tide of fear-mongering invoked by the plans to build a Muslim-led community center New York City.
The 60-second PSA showcases American Muslims of diverse ages and backgrounds speaking to the specific fears and concerns many Americans may have about Islam and Muslims.
The script reads, in part:
"In recent weeks, a lot of people have been telling you what to think about Muslims. They say you should fear me…But the truth is I don't want to impose my faith on you...Islam teaches me to respect all people...I am an American. I am Muslim. This is My Faith. This is My Voice."

"We often hear from fear-mongers that Muslims are trying to take over America or that they are trying to impose their faith on others, but this is simply not true," said David Hawa, producer of the PSA, at the press conference. "This PSA is our humble and sincere effort to ease people's concerns that this is not who we are or what we are about."
American Muslims from around the country are also submitting their own versions of the PSA as a way to support the campaign. Communities are also asked to contact their local PSA directors to request the airing of the PSA in their respective markets.
