ALEXANDRIA, Va., Aug. 31, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) is pleased to announce the appointment of Laura E. Happe, PharmD, MPH, as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Managed Care & Specialty Pharmacy (JMCP). For the past two years, Happe has served as assistant editor for the journal.
"We are delighted that Laura will take the reins of our flagship publication at a time when JMCP is experiencing rapid growth in size, circulation, and influence," said AMCP CEO Edith A. Rosato, RPh, IOM. "JMCP has long been one of the most respected peer-reviewed journals in the health care community, and Laura has the expertise and experience necessary to take it to even greater heights."
With over 10 years of experience conducting health outcomes and economic studies, Happe currently leads academic research publishing for Humana Inc. in the Office of the Chief Medical Officer. Her work there has resulted in the dissemination of population health studies that are central to improving patient health and well-being. Prior to Humana, she was an associate professor of pharmacy at Presbyterian College and director of managed markets at Xcenda. Happe has published more than 20 peer-reviewed research articles.
"I have always turned to JMCP for the latest research on formulary and clinical management," said Happe. "In today's evolving health care ecosystem, the research JMCP publishes is forming the foundation of solutions, such as value-based contracts and specialty drug management. As editor-in-chief, I have the privilege of connecting authors and innovators, accelerating advances in managed care pharmacy."
Happe earned her doctor of pharmacy degree from Creighton University and her master of public health degree from the University of South Florida. An AMCP member since 2003, Happe has served as an AMCP Diplomat and as chair and vice chair of the Schools of Pharmacy Relations Committee.
JMCP has experienced change and rapid growth in recent years. In February 2014, the Journal of Managed Care Pharmacy was renamed the Journal of Managed Care & Specialty Pharmacy to reflect the growing importance and prevalence of specialty drugs among health care providers. The renamed journal also doubled its circulation to over 32,000 and expanded to twelve monthly issues.
