Ambassador Wisner spent four decades in the highest echelons of the U.S. Department of State and Department of Defense. His decorated diplomatic career included postings as ambassador to India, the Philippines, Egypt, and Zambia.

Ambassador Wisner held numerous diplomatic posts in a career spanning eight presidents, earning the distinguished rank of Career Ambassador. He served as the U.S. Ambassador to India (1994-97), the Philippines (1991-92), Egypt (1986-91), and Zambia (1979-82). He also held several high-level positions in Washington, including Under Secretary of Defense for Policy (1993-94), Under Secretary of State for International Security Affairs (1992-93), Senior Deputy Assistant Secretary for African Affairs (1982-86), and Deputy Executive Secretary of the Department of State (1977).
In 2005, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice appointed Ambassador Wisner special representative to the Kosovo Status Talks, where he played a crucial role in negotiating Kosovo's independence. In 2011, President Barack Obama sent Ambassador Wisner to Cairo to meet with then Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in the height of the Tahrir Square uprising.
Upon leaving government service, Ambassador Wisner joined the American International Group (AIG), where he was named Vice Chairman, External Affairs. In 2009, he joined Patton Boggs LLP as Foreign Affairs Advisor, where he provides clients with strategic counsel on business, politics, and international law. He serves as a Director of the U.S.-India Business Council, a trustee of the American University of Beirut, Chairman of International House, an advisor to Kissinger Associates, and a member of the Board of Directors of EOG Resources, Ethan Allen Inc, and AIG Property Casualty Inc.
