Alexian Brothers Medical Center Named One of 'America's 50 Best Hospitals' for 2011
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill., Feb. 24, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Alexian Brothers Medical Center, Elk Grove Village, Illinois, part of Alexian Brothers Health System, was named this week by the Denver-based medical ratings service HealthGrades as one of "America's 50 Best Hospitals" for 2011. Hospitals named to this year's list demonstrated superior and sustained clinical quality over an 11-year time period, based on an analysis of more than 140 million Medicare patient records.
According to HealthGrades, patients admitted to a hospital on the "America's 50 Best Hospitals" list are more likely to have successful treatment without major complications. "As our nation searches for a solution to providing Americans with access to high-quality healthcare at an affordable price, these hospitals are setting the standard, demonstrating that consistent, sustainable clinical excellence is achievable," said Dr. Rick May, HealthGrades' Vice President of Clinical Quality services and a co-author of the report.
"This recognition is further affirmation of Alexian Brothers' ability to provide the highest level of quality patient-centered care, said Diana Woytko, Vice President, Patient Safety and Quality for Alexian Brothers Health System. "These outcome-based measures demonstrate the effort and dedication of our employees, medical staff and leadership teams."
HealthGrades sent an e-mail survey to CEOs and chief medical officers from the top-scoring hospitals, looking for best practices that drive quality. Respondents cited high rates of physician leadership in quality improvement initiatives. The survey also found that if all hospitals performed at the level of the HealthGrades' America's 50 Best, approximately 550,000 deaths over the last decade could have been prevented. Alexian Brothers Medical Center was one of only three hospitals in Illinois to make the "America's 50 Best Hospitals" list.
