BEACHWOOD, Ohio, Sept. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Aleris International, Inc. announced today that it plans to expand capacity at its Tianjin, China facility by installing a 28MN extrusion press that will help the company meet increasing demand in China and better serve its customers that have operations in China. Increased production is expected to begin in the first half of 2011.
The 28MN press, which is being transferred from Aleris's operations in Duffel, Belgium, will enable the Tianjin plant to produce nearly three times its current volume of extrusions by 2015. The press also will broaden the range of value-added products that can be produced for Aleris customers in a variety of industry segments.
"Aleris plans to significantly increase local production and capability in China," said Roeland Baan, CEO, Aleris Europe, and the Aleris executive responsible for the company's operations in Asia. "Moving this press to Tianjin is a first step in that process."
The Tianjin facility serves customers primarily in the automotive, transportation, mechanical and engineering industries. Aleris acquired the Tianjin plant in 2007, which was first established in 2000 as a joint venture of Corus Aluminum Vogt GmbH and Tianjin Non-Ferrous Metals Group Co., Ltd., a state-owned enterprise of China.
