Alcon Entertainment Chooses Corona SDK for Warner Bros. Dolphin Tale Mobile App
HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Sept. 12, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- After working nearly 20 years in Hollywood, Alcon Entertainment screenwriter Noam Dromi now has his first full-length screenplay Dolphin Tale ready to debut in theaters worldwide from Warner Bros. Pictures. But rather than sit back and revel in his star-studded accomplishment, Dromi wanted to bring the film to the mobile platform, allowing moviegoers to experience another aspect of the Dolphin Tale story.
Dromi and Dolphin Tale producer Richard Ingber approached Trailer Park, Hollywood's leading entertainment marketing agency, for their expertise in creative content and mobile app design. Trailer Park pondered Alcon's concept for the Dolphin Tale app – a feeding game called "Dolphin Tale: Fling a Fish" – and knew they could deliver a high-quality app for iOS and Android on a tight schedule using Ansca Mobile's Corona SDK tool.
"Corona allowed us to write the Fling a Fish game once and deploy it across the iPhone, iPad, and Android platforms from the same set of code," explained Evan Geerlings, Trailer Park's VP of Mobile. "That was the only way we were able to build the app and launch it on time and on budget."
"Simply put: this app would have never come out without Corona SDK," echoed Dromi.
Ansca Mobile co-founder Carlos Icaza says Trailer Park's scenario is the type that Corona thrives in.
"We know that big agencies today have a relentless workload and must crank out top-notch apps at an ever-increasing pace," said Icaza. "And with Corona, they can do just that without sacrificing an ounce of performance or quality in their apps."
Dolphin Tale: Fling a Fish is available now for download in the Apple App Store and Android Market. The Dolphin Tale film – directed by Charles Martin Smith and starring Morgan Freeman, Ashley Judd, and Harry Connick Jr. – is set for release on September 23.
