Akros GreenEdge AS1854 Named '2009 Product of the Year' by Electronic Products Magazine

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Jan. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Akros Silicon, a leader in intelligent energy management semiconductor devices, today announced it was recognized with an Electronic Products' Product of the Year award for its AS1854 Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) Powered-Device System-on-a-Chip (PD SoC) product.

The editors of Electronic Products—a leading trade publication for electronic design engineers—evaluated thousands of products launched in 2009. The winning products are selected on the basis of innovative design, significant advancement in technology or application and substantial achievement in price and performance. The AS1854 broke new ground with an innovative SoC solution that includes GreenEdge™ high-voltage digital isolation technology, smart power management features and quad DC-DC power outputs; enabling intelligent, highly efficient, cost-effective solutions for PoE PD platforms.

Released in May 2009, the AS1854 is the only PD solution in the industry to integrate on-chip digital isolation technology. Akros' patented GreenEdge™ digital isolation technology eliminates low-speed, bulky opto-couplers and integrates functionality of up to nine separate ICs used in current solutions, including a third-generation IEEE 802.3at/af digital PD controller and quad-output digital power DC-DC converters. Integration of digital isolation technology bridges the gap between real-time decision-making software (local or remote) and the high-voltage power subsystem for superior energy-management architecture.

The 2009 Product of the Year Awards were announced in the January 2010 issue of Electronic Products with a cover feature and a brief description of each product.
