AirFuel Alliance Expanding with new Members, China Office, Wireless Charging Products, and Public Infrastructure
AirFuel technology now available at more Train Stations, Airports, Sporting Venues, Offices, Restaurants & Hotels globally
SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 13, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Mobile World Congress Americas -- AirFuel™ Alliance, the authority on wireless power technology and standards, is continuing to drive wireless charging adoption and market momentum with the launch of real-world, commercialized products and solutions in Asia and around the world. The Alliance is welcoming 6 new members to its ranks, including consumer electronics manufacturers Compal Electronics and TDK, and celebrating the launch of new AirFuel Resonant and RF-enabled wireless charging products and infrastructure installations along with organizational expansion in Asia.
New Members
In the past few months, AirFuel has added several new Alliance members from around the world including: Compal Electronics, TDK, STMicrolectronics, Halo Microelectronics, Gyeongbuk Technopark, and Nevro Corporation.
These new members have pledged their support for strengthening the open, wireless charging ecosystem AirFuel is creating, and will join in creating the technical specifications, product certification, and global interoperability needed to grow the wireless charging market.
Asia Expansion & Deployment
In addition to opening a new office in Shenzhen, China, AirFuel has been working with government organizations and private companies to create a broader wireless charging ecosystem throughout the Southeast Coast of China and Taiwan. There are currently tens of thousands of AirFuel infrastructure deployments worldwide, with many more expected in 2017 and 2018, especially throughout Asia. New projects include:
- Taiwan Airport Metro train – As part of the TAICS agreement signed last year, AirFuel member NewVastek and others are working with Taoyuan Metro to deploy AirFuel Resonant wireless charging in 11 express trains, 31 commuter trains and 21 stations. This will give Taiwanese travelers the ability to charge devices ranging from smartphones to tablets to laptops while they ride. The project also includes internet-enabled remote monitoring to help with diagnostics and trouble-shooting.
- Order Furniture – The biggest furniture vendor in Taiwan, Order Furniture, is bringing wireless charging into the home by launching a new line of AirFuel Resonant-enabled furniture. Available today, new sofas will feature built-in wireless charging PTUs so consumers can conveniently charge their devices while they continue to work or play on them. Order Furniture chose AirFuel Resonant based on its elegant and functional design -- the charging source can be hidden instead of bolted on, as Resonant offers the benefit of charging through materials such as wood, concrete or stone.
More New Products
Next-generation technologies like Resonant and RF offer distinct advantages when it comes to wireless charging -- chief among them is spatial freedom. Resonant and RF-based solutions allow multiple devices to be charged from one charging source, at longer distances from that source. This gives consumers – and businesses – a level of flexibility and mobility not possible until now.
Some examples of new AirFuel member products and solutions include:
- EPC 33-Watt Wireless Power Kit – The EPC9120 wireless power demonstration system is a high efficiency, AirFuel-compatible, wireless power transfer kit capable of delivering up to 33 W into a transmit coil while operating at 6.78 MHz. The popularity of highly resonant wireless power transfer is increasing rapidly, particularly for applications targeting portable device charging. The end applications are varied and evolving quickly from cell phone charging, to handheld tablets, and laptop computers. The EPC9120 kit, capable of delivery up to 33 W supports all of these applications.
- Energous WattUp High-Power RF Transmitter – Energous has created a new, GaN-based High-Power Near Field charging solution for electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets, smart speakers, game controllers, drones and more. The new Near Field WattUp transmitter reference design is capable of charging devices with up to 10 watts of energy, significantly increasing the amount of power delivered to receiving devices and eliminating connectors and charging contacts for a much wider variety of devices.
"We're so excited to see the innovation and leadership coming from our members and our new friends in Taiwan and China. And this is only the beginning," said Ron Resnick, President, AirFuel Alliance.
