Aeropostale Reports May Sales Results; Same Store Sales Increase 1%
NEW YORK, June 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Aeropostale, Inc. (NYSE: ARO), a mall-based specialty retailer of casual and active apparel for young women and men, today announced that total net sales for the four-week period ended May 29, 2010 increased 7% to $141.6 million compared to $132.9 million for the four-week period ended May 30, 2009. The Company's same store sales increased 1% for the month, compared to a same store sales increase of 19% in the year ago period.
The Company noted that its results for the month include a negative impact due to the Memorial Day calendar shift. The Company also stated that its merchandise margins for the month increased significantly over last year, and inventories remain well controlled and on plan.
