Adaptiva Survey Reveals Impending Windows 10 Adoption Surge Despite Tepid Interest in Windows 10 Anniversary Update

Windows 10 Spike Set to Hit in Early 2017 with 64% of Companies Planning to Migrate within the Next Year

SEATTLE, Aug. 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Adaptiva, the market leader in smart scaling systems management, today released insights from its 2016 Windows 10 Enterprise Adoption Survey. The survey of over 300 IT professionals from SMBs to large enterprises found tomorrow's expected Windows 10 Anniversary OS release from Microsoft isn't proving to be a huge motivator for upgrading. An overwhelming majority of overall survey takers (76%) said the anniversary update is not increasing their sense of urgency to move to Windows 10. Only 30% of those working in enterprises with over 10,000 personnel, acknowledge it is encouraging them to migrate sooner.

While the Anniversary update isn't triggering a massive surge in adoption, the survey did show that enterprises are planning to move to Windows 10 in large numbers. Sixty-four percent of overall respondents expect to migrate to Windows 10 within the next year. The survey results revealed that companies rank access to the newest Windows 10 security features, such as enterprise data protection, Device Guard, Credential Guard, and security auditing, as key drivers for the migration.

"These survey results show that the anticipated surge in enterprise Windows 10 adoption is definitely on the horizon, and some organizations are expediting plans in light of the anniversary release," said Jim Souders, chief operating officer at Adaptiva. Early Adopters Choosing System Center Configuration Manager as Top Deployment Tool but Finding Windows 10 Deployments Challenging
Early adopters are showing strong confidence in the new operating system once it is deployed, with 52% expressing plans to have more than half of their systems migrated in the next year. However, so far, the majority (65%) of respondents rated the move to Windows 10 to be somewhat to extremely challenging. Early adopters also noted:

System Center Configuration Manager (ConfigMgr) is the top deployment tool of choice with 83% overall use, shooting to 90% usage in large enterprises.
When it comes to updates, 56% of those in the enterprise are utilizing Current Branch for Business with only 22% using Long Term Servicing Branch.
For ongoing updates, more respondents are using SCCM Windows 10 upgrade task sequences (42%) than offline servicing features (29%).

Adoption Laggards Concerned About App Compatibility and Time Constraints
Despite the positive reviews from peers currently making the transition to Windows 10, a surprising 41% of total respondents are actively resisting the move by using software to prevent or disable Windows 10 installation. Why the holdup? Survey respondents reported compatibility of legacy apps (68%) and time constraints (62%) as the top two barriers to adoption of Windows 10. Microsoft is persistently pursuing these holdouts, however, with 82% of respondents reporting that they are receiving notifications about once a week to upgrade.
