HILLSBOROUGH, N.C., Sept. 26, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Adamandeve.com (http://www.adamandeve.com), America's most trusted source for adult products, is back this month with new results from its annual sex survey. This time, the company asked over 1,000 adults how old they were when they first had sexual intercourse, and the results may surprise you.
Only 2% of the females and 5% of the males polled said they lost their virginity before age 13. Most of the respondents, 52% of the females and 49% of the males, admitted they first had sex between age 13 and 18. Thirty-eight percent of the females and 34% of the males said they first had intercourse between age 18 and 23, and 8% of the women and 12% of the men were over age 23.
"As a licensed marriage and family therapist, I find these numbers encouraging," says Dr. Kat Van Kirk, resident sexologist for Adam & Eve. "Sex is an amazing, powerful gift, but one that teenagers - especially young teenagers - are often ill-equipped to handle."
"Engaging in sexual activity before you are ready physically and emotionally can lead to a number of long term issues," continues Dr. Kat. "I'm pleased to see that more young people are choosing to wait to have sex than in years past."
The web-based survey, conducted by an independent third party survey company, of over 1,000 American adults age 18 and up, was sponsored by Adam & Eve to study sexual preferences and practices.
