NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Feb. 22 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Actors and Others for Animals, a Los Angeles based animal welfare organization dedicated to ending the pet overpopulation problem, will provide spay/neuter surgeries for 400 cats of Los Angeles County residents free of charge as part of the 16th Annual Spay Day. Spay Day is an annual campaign of The Humane Society of the United States and Humane Society International to inspire people to save animals' lives by spaying or neutering pets and feral cats This special program is being sponsored by the PETCO Foundation. In addition, our organization's work is supported in part by a grant from the California Community Foundation.
Beginning on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 through Tuesday, March 9, 2010, in recognition of "Spay Day," Los Angeles County residents may register online at www.actorsandothers.com to receive a voucher for a free spay or neuter for their pet cat(s). Surgeries must be completed by April 20, 2010, and there is a limit of three (3) vouchers per household. Spay/neuter vouchers are redeemable at the following ten (10) participating veterinary clinics: Animal Clinic of La Mirada, Clinico/San Pedro, Crenshaw Dog & Cat Hospital, Fix Nation, Gateway Animal Hospital, Golden State Humane Long beach, Lynwood Animal Hospital, PDI-Pet Doctors of Industry, Spay & Neuter Clinic of Simi Valley and Valley Vet Hospital/San Gabriel.
Controlling the pet overpopulation problem through spay/neuter education and sterilization subsidies is a 365-day a year mission for Actors and Others for Animals. This special program is limited to cats to draw attention to the alarming fact that nearly twice as many cats than dogs are euthanized in our local shelters each year, especially kittens. Actors and Others for Animals' President JoAnne Worley will be commemorating Spay Day with Stephanie Miller on the Stephanie Miller Show on February 23, 2010, 8:30 a.m. KTLK 1150 AM. "We firmly believe that the only way to solve the pet overpopulation problem and end the killing of so many unwanted animals is through spay and neuter," Ms. Worley notes. In the last ten years alone, Actors and Others for Animals has facilitated the sterilization of over 125,000 companion animals.
