28th Annual Shell Rotella SuperRigs® Rolls into Historic Lexington, Va.
Premier Truck Beauty Contest will be held at LEE HI Travel Plaza from June 10-12
HOUSTON, June 9 /PRNewswire/ -- The 28th annual Shell Rotella SuperRigs® competition will be held June 10-12 at the LEE HI Travel Plaza, 2516 North Lee Highway, Lexington, Va. The Shell Rotella SuperRigs® competition is the premier truck beauty contest for actively working trucks. Owner/operator truckers from across the United States and Canada will compete for cash and prizes valued at approximately $25,000. Additionally, 12 lucky drivers will be selected to have their truck featured in the 2011 Shell Rotella SuperRigs™ calendar.
"The Shell Rotella SuperRigs® event is one of the most anticipated events of the year for truckers, and it allows us to honor drivers and provide them the ability to showcase their amazing trucks each year," said Mark Reed, global brand manager, Shell Rotella. "After we launched the Shell Rotella® Energized Protection™ portfolio of heavy duty engine oils last fall, we were determined to energize the Shell Rotella SuperRigs® event as well. LEE HI Travel Plaza is a great location, we have added a lot of fun events, and the community support from the Lexington area has been tremendous."
Events and attractions anticipated during the three-day contest include a daily carnival, hot air balloon rides and trucker's drive-in movie night featuring Smokey and the Bandit. Free nightly concerts include bluegrass band Nothin' Fancy; 70's show band Right On Band; and the country music of Burns & Poe.
A parade on Friday night, June 11th, will showcase some of the contest entrants, local community and civic organizations, and a special collection of antique trucks. The parade will proceed through downtown Lexington and end at LEE HI Travel Plaza, where a spectacular fireworks show will kick off the big rig light contest.
The National Tractor Pull Association Shell Rotella mini-modified tractor will make its debut at Shell Rotella SuperRigs®. Puller Larry Koester, a multi-time NTPA mini-modified division champion, will be attending all three days of the event. The Rotella Road Show, which uses visual demonstrations to highlight the capabilities and benefits of Shell Rotella® Energized Protection™ engine oils, will also be featured.
Trucks entered in Shell Rotella SuperRigs® are judged by industry professionals who work for major trucking publications and broadcast companies. Judges score the rigs on exterior appearance, design, detail/finish, originality, and workmanship. In total, 25 working trucks receive awards for categories such as Best of Show, Tractor, Tractor/Trailer Combination and Classic categories.
The truck beauty contest is free to all participants. Every entrant will receive a gift package consisting of one gallon of Shell Rotella® T Triple Protection® engine oil; one gallon of Shell Rotella® ELC Extended Life Coolant; a single application tube of Shell Retinax Fifth Wheel Grease; Shell Rotella SuperRigs t-shirt and hat; a 2010 Shell Rotella SuperRigs™ calendar; and a package of Rain-X® wipes.
Shell Rotella SuperRigs® truck beauty contest entrants can register on site upon arrival and enter the judging line whenever they are ready. Judging will take place between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, June 10 and 11, and between 8 a.m. and noon on Saturday, June 12. Judging takes about 20 minutes, and contestants do not need to be present to win. The presentation ceremony for the awards will take place at 1:30 p.m. on June 12.
Along with the above categories, awards will also be given in specialized categories such as "Best Chrome," "Best Theme," "Best Mural," "Best Lights," "People's Choice" and others. The "Best Lights" judging will be held at dark on Friday evening, and the "People's Choice" award will be voted on throughout the event by all contestants and spectators.
