WASHINGTON, June 21, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Applications for the second year of the Africa Business Fellowship (ABF), a joint-initiative of Econet, Management Leadership for Tomorrow (MLT), the African Leadership Network (ALN), and the Milken Institute, open today. Business leaders from across the United States will have the opportunity to submit their applications at www.africabusinessfellowship.com. First round applications will close on November 1 and second round applications will conclude on December 1.
Successful applicants will spend three or six months with premier African corporations and startups in countries including Nigeria, South Africa, and Kenya. Fellows will have the unparalleled opportunity to familiarize themselves with business best practices and develop networks that will serve as a foundation for bridges between African and American business interests.
"The Africa Business Fellowship is an investment in the future strengthening of US-Africa commercial ties, and is set to become a signature effort of Africa's private sector in developing a new partnership with the US based on trade and entrepreneurship," says Strive Masiyiwa, Econet Group Founder and Executive Chairman.
ABF was launched in May 2015 at the Milken Institute Global Conference. The program has endorsements from Kofi Annan, Chair of the Africa Progress Panel and former Secretary General of the United Nations and Nobel Laureate and former African Development Bank President Donald Kaberuka. The inaugural 2016 ABF cohort includes experts in financial services, technology, management consulting, and digital marketing.
"Insight into global economies is critical to the success of American business leaders," said MLT Founder and CEO John Rice. "ABF provides talented American business professionals an extraordinary opportunity to experience first-hand the economic and cultural forces that are shaping Africa's growth," Rice continued.
"We've already received positive feedback about our 2016 effort from both Fellows and host companies. I hope to expand the program's reach in terms of sectors and locations in 2017," says Adedana Ashebir, African Leadership Network's ABF Program Director.
