LOS ANGELES, Sept. 10, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following is being released by O.A.F. LLC:
The blockbuster hit film "2016: Obama's America" took in $3.2 million at the box office this weekend for a total of $26 million to become the second highest all-time political documentary, passing Michael Moore's Sicko and Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth. In addition it has risen to #6 on the list of all documentaries, surpassing Katy Perry's Part of Me. It is on track to surpass the nature films Earth and Chimpanzee. The film finished the weekend in the top ten box office for the U.S.
The film attracted a great deal of attention around the country and crowds have responded with unbridled enthusiasm. The Newport Beach (CA) Independent reported that the Newport Beach movie theater moved 2016: Obama's America into its one thousand-seat auditorium to meet demand. Captains of industry such as Donald Trump, Rupert Murdoch and Jack Welch have tweeted, urging others to see it.
The film was produced by Gerald Molen, who won the Oscar for producing "Schindler's List" and also produced blockbusters such as "Jurassic Park" and "Hook." Writer/director Dinesh D'Souza is the author of the bestselling book The Roots of Obama's Rage, upon which the film is based.
"We are pleased that concerned Americans are taking it upon themselves to get more facts about President Obama's background and his ideological formation. This film is a window into America's future under another four years of the Obama Administration," said D'Souza.
"This film is having an impact across the country," said Producer Gerald R. Molen. "Americans are hearing, in Barack Obama's own words, what he believes—and what that will mean for the United States."
"2016: Obama's America" was filmed on four continents and features on-camera interviews with those who knew President Obama, including his destitute half-brother George Obama in Kenya and Philip Ochieng, who was an associate of Barack Obama, Sr.
"Love him or hate him, you don't know him." "2016: Obama's America" is the definitive account of how one man's past could redefine a nation and where we will be in 2016 if Obama remains in the White House.
