2014 NetSuite Open To Benefit SquashDrive Charity
Local Executives Take Corporate Challenge to Benefit Bay Area Youth
SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 26, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of its continued commitment to the future of squash, the NetSuite Open Squash Championships will again partner with SquashDrive, an after-school youth development program that combines education and squash into programs that enrich the lives of Bay Area youth, especially those in underserved neighborhoods.
This week's NetSuite Open, which brings the world's top squash players to San Francisco's Justin Herman Plaza through September 30, will host its first Corporate Squash Challenge in support of its charity partner. The Challenge will bring together executives from Bay Area-based corporations for a friendly squash competition. The participating companies are donating a $5,000 "entry fee" with all proceeds directly benefitting SquashDrive.
"Squash has always been a personal passion of mine," said Evan Goldberg, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer of NetSuite. "We are really excited to announce the Corporate Squash Challenge this year, which will not only bring together the local squash community with Bay Area businesses, but will also help play a big part in helping to grow the next generation of squash talent."
The following companies will be participating: NetSuite, KKR, VoxPop Network Corporation, Vista Equity Partners and Cascade Capital Management.
"Making an investment in the future of squash is one of the best parts of my job as tournament director," said John Nimick, President of Event Engine, Inc. & NetSuite Open Tournament Director. "Saturday's clinic with the SquashDrive players is one of the highlights of the tournament for the professional players."
A squash clinic with the top players from the Professional Squash Association Tour will be held on Saturday, September 27 at 1 p.m. for the kids in SquashDrive at the all-glass court at Justin Herman Plaza.
SquashDrive is an after-school youth development program in Oakland that blends squash instruction with academics, tutoring, mentoring and community service. Team members participate in SquashDrive activities three hours a day, three days a week throughout the school year. The squash program consists of on-court instruction and practices. Nutrition and fitness is also an important part of the program. Each SquashDrive team member will participate in a minimum of 10 hours of community service per year.
