2011 Metro Dash Race Dates Announced
First nine dates and cities scheduled
NORFOLK, Va., Jan. 13, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Last year, more than 2,200 people competed in the inaugural Metro Dash race series, unique fitness events held in 13 major cities with courses designed by former Navy SEALs.
The first half of this year's Metro Dash series is in place, with the first event April 17 in Hampton Roads, Va.
"I'm excited to announce a completely different type of urban race -- one that pits you against 30 daunting obstacles," said Sean Ofeldt, founder of Metro Dash. "We love adversity, and there's no better way to test your physical and mental capacity than on an obstacle course taken straight from the playbooks of America's elite military forces. Metro Dash is unlike any race you've ever competed in, and if you're looking for a way to gauge your overall fitness, then look no further. We're changing the face of urban athletics and are having a ton of fun doing it."
Obstacles throughout the course include tire flips, rope swings, 15-foot cargo net climbs, wall jumps, monkey bars and the strongman shuffle. All are based on functional fitness principles long familiar to pro athletes and military forces -- terrain no other urban race has tackled.
This year the Metro Dash schedule includes:
