More about Shanghai Sun Island
Nestled upstream of the Huangpu river that flows to the Shanghai Bund, Shanghai Sun Island is a 160 hectares island resort. Sun Island presents a simple yet sophisticated style that transcends the cosmopolitan bustling of Shanghai, while staying conveniently connected to all the comforts and convenience the metropolis can provide. Two renowned 18-hole golf courses and a newly renovated conference centre/clubhouse fulfill the functional requirements of the island, with the 453-room resort lying at the heart of it all. The resort is made up of four villages consisting of villas of distinctive flora-spheres. The distinctive seasons in Shanghai bring out the unique characteristics of each village, glorified by the different colours and scents, from osmanthus to peach blossoms.
History of Sun Island
Sun Island was historically known as Mao Island. It is the home of the Mao Pagoda, also known as the Mahota Pagoda, one of China's five ancient lighthouses which dates back to the Tang Dynasty. Built in 874AD, the pagoda has been a beacon for passing boats plying the Huangpu River, guiding travelers through these quiet water ways for more than a millennium.
Embraced on all sides by serene river views, the island inspired men of letters with its beauty and significance. Sun Island is today a fully integrated resort offering a plethora of programs, services, and activities aimed at the holistic wellness of your being. Despite these developments, Sun Island has not only retained its Mao identity and heritage, the emphasis on nature, culture and art, it has also stayed true to its mission of reflecting and deepening Mao culture.
