The Pennzoil Ultra Victory Challenge is a competition that puts some of NASCAR's top drivers against one another to showcase their best post-win celebratory skills – otherwise known as the "burnout". This year's format allowed the drivers a longer freestyle demonstration without a specific course to run. Each driver took their turn in identically prepared NASCAR Racing Experience stock cars and had 30 seconds to complete their respective runs. Two pylons were added for bonus points if knocked down during their runs.
An all-star line-up that included Shell-Pennzoil driver and defending Pennzoil Ultra Victory Challenge champion Kevin Harvick, 2010 Daytona 500 champion – Jaime McMurray, Clint Bowyer, Kyle Busch, Joey Logano, Ryan Newman and David Reutimann, made the third annual Pennzoil Ultra Victory Challenge another exciting event during the Sprint All-Star weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
In addition to a star-studded entry list, a group of A-list athletes and performers joined the Judges' Panel for the Pennzoil Ultra Victory Challenge including three-time World Wrestling Champion Jeff Hardy; All-Pro wide receiver for the Charlotte Panthers Steve Smith; the lead-singer and guitarist from the hit-rock band CREED, Scott Stapp and Mark Tremonti; and former NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver and SPEED personality, Jimmy Spencer.
Logano was the second driver to take the green flag and claimed the trophy with a total of 67 out of the 70 possible points.
"I thought that I was a little bit of an underdog," stated Logano after being declared the winner of the Pennzoil Ultra Victory Challenge. "I felt that Kyle was going to be the favorite here. I didn't know what I was doing. I walked out onto pit road, and was like, 'What's the plan here?' They said that we have some pylons and to hit those and make it spectacular, so that was what I did and apparently it was good enough to win.
"It's pretty cool. I got this awesome trophy and I get $10,000 for my charity that I picked which is the USA Paralympics Hockey Team. It's something that I kind of grown bound to helping them. … It's cool because they're here today and they brought the gold medals [that they won in a competition in Vancouver], so it's a pretty perfect situation," concluded Logano.
Reutimann's runner-up effort earned a score of 61 from the judges. Despite blowing out the right-rear tire and tearing up the fender, Clint Bowyer finished third followed by Shell Pennzoil's own Kevin Harvick in fourth. Jamie McMurray and Ryan Newman rounded out top six. Kyle Busch was disqualified after making contact with the wall.
